Escalation (5/26/2021)

This was the day where everything became muddied and messy. The Corporate Clash attack campaign from toontown.co.uk began on this day and was also when Toontown Offline was banned from the larger Toontown community.

The Situation

Both Loonatic and Prof McMouse resigned from Toontown Offline, both having lost faith in their abilities to lead this crumbling project, leaving Drewcification as the only lead remaining. More Offline members then leave. After this, King Mickey begins to push a weird, conspiracy theory-esque narrative that Corporate Clash has it out for Toontown Offline, promoting leaked Group DMs and other information that were all being hosted on toontown.co.uk. Toontown.co.uk was originally the official Toontown Online UK website.

Toontown Offline discussion gets banned from the Toontown subreddit due to the website as well as toxicity and raid campaigns to the Clash Discord from inside the Offline Discord. Said raids allegedly involved some leaked Corporate Clash assets that people were encouraged to set as their profile pictures and harrass Clash staff with in the Clash Discord. Toontown.co.uk claims that the /r/toontown ban was a censor job by Corporate Clash and Toontown Rewritten and posts a leaked Google Drive folder full of Toontown Offline screenshots that the Clash leads decided to send to Joey Z., Creative Director of Toontown Rewritten.

My Opinion

I was one of the people that left the Toontown Offline team after this happened. Most of the people that I respected were pretty much gone, and I think the breaking point for me leaving was the fact that the staff were allowing the Toontown Offline Discord to become a cesspool of toxicity. Right before I left, I saw that people were publicly insulting diverse gender expression and the Offline team did nothing about it. For context, I'm a transgender woman, so this obviously made me very uncomfortable. The staff was apparently being completely negligent towards anything offensive that was being posted in the Discord and in the official mini-server.

Moving swiftly onto the big thing about this day: the usage of toontown.co.uk to host leaked information about the situation. To put it bluntly, the usage of the former Toontown Online UK domain name to host conspiracy content about Toontown fan projects is one of the most sad and pathetic uses of a cool domain name that I have ever seen. It makes me feel embarrassed that I had held interest and praise for Toontown Offline for whole 7 years until this day.

I used to not understand why Toontown Rewritten was so dedicated to grab as many official-looking Toontown usernames and domains as possible. I thought it was solely to promote their brand image as THE Toontown and to push out any and all competition. However, as we've seen from Corporate Clash's success as of recently, people are fully capable of recognizing that there can be multiple Toontown's that exist at the same time. This event made me realize that Toontown Rewritten is primarily trying to protect Toontown's image by trying to disallow bad actors from abusing the Toontown name. What is happening with toontown.co.uk is what Toontown Rewritten was trying to prevent.

I'm sure some people might be wondering about the whole "Offline raiding Clash" claim listed in the situation. This was based off of what two separate people have said, by the way. One was a friend that was thrown into the middle of the situation and another was an anonymous source that reached out to me on Discord. From what they've collectively told me, Corporate Clash assets were leaked in the Toontown Offline Discord server. People in that server were encouraged to set their profile pictures to said leaked assets and join the Corporate Clash Discord server en masse. Apparently there was some in-game raiding going on, too? All I know is that the Corporate Clash Discord was raided. This instantly brings me back to 2017, when the whole ODS vs Altis thing was happening and they were raiding each others Discord servers. It's pathetic and sad.

I kinda sorta really hate that they're calling drama quelling "censorship" on the Toontown subreddit. The head moderator of the subreddit, Nat, kinda just came back to Toontown at the exact same time as this situation started blowing up, and took precautions given all the shady stuff that was being exerted from Toontown Offline and toontown.co.uk. But alas, this is being twisted into some sort of weird collaborative effort by Toontown Rewritten, Corporate Clash, and the Toontown subreddit to silence Toontown Offline. Some weirdos might even say that they were canceled.

The events of today have destroyed any sort of view of a competent project I had for Toontown Offline. They are throwing away everything that they built themselves up to be out of pure spite for Corporate Clash. As someone who was invested in the project ever since Logano dropped it on the MMO Central Forums in 2014, I genuinely hope that Toontown Offline crashes and burns.
